  1. Wear Proper Protective Gear: Invest in high-quality protective gear and wear it consistently during games and practices. This includes a helmet, mouthguard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, shin guards, and gloves. The MCHL's MCM program can provide guidance on selecting the right gear and ensuring a proper fit.

  2. Warm-Up and Stretch: Prior to hitting the ice, warm up your muscles and perform stretching exercises. This helps to increase blood flow, improve flexibility, and reduce the risk of muscle strains and injuries. The MCHL's MCM program offers warm-up routines designed specifically for hockey players.

  3. Play Within Your Abilities: Be aware of your skill level and play within your capabilities. Avoid attempting high-risk maneuvers or engaging in overly aggressive play that could lead to unnecessary injuries. Focus on good sportsmanship, fair play, and the enjoyment of the game.

  4. Stay Hydrated: Proper hydration is crucial for optimal performance and reducing the risk of injuries. Drink plenty of water before, during, and after games to maintain proper hydration levels. The MCHL's MCM program emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated and offers hydration tips for players.

  5. Communicate and Respect Opponents: Effective communication with your opponents is vital to avoid collisions and accidents on the ice. Respect other players' personal space and communicate your intentions during gameplay. The MCHL and the MCM program promote a culture of mutual respect and sportsmanship.

  6. Follow League Rules and Regulations: Familiarize yourself with the specific rules and regulations of your beer league hockey organization. Adhering to these guidelines promotes a safe and fair playing environment for all participants. The MCHL's MCM program can provide resources on league rules and help clarify any uncertainties.

  7. Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to any signs of fatigue, discomfort, or pain during games or practices. Rest when needed, and seek medical attention for any injuries or persistent issues. The MCHL's MCM program emphasizes the importance of self-care and offers guidance on injury management and recovery.

Info MCHL

The Mythical Creatures Hockey League (MCHL) is a unique, privately run adult hockey league founded in 2021. Designed for beginners through lower-C skill level players, MCHL brings together the spirit of competition and the magic of mythical creatures to create a fun, welcoming environment for all.

We operate primarily out of rinks across the Raleigh-Durham area, offering a wide range of hockey experiences including league games, pickups, tournaments, coached practices, power skating, goalie clinics, and even events at venues like the Lenovo Center. We also organize travel teams that compete in tournaments outside the area.

Where We Play

MCHL teams and pickup sessions are held at several premier rinks across the Triangle, including:

The Factory – Wake Forest, NC

Raleigh Iceplex – Raleigh, NC

Polar Ice – Cary & Garner, NC

Orange County Sportsplex – Hillsborough, NC

Invisalign Arena – Morrisville, NC (Wake Competition Center)

The MCHL was founded by two passionate hockey enthusiasts with a shared goal: to create a community that blends competitive hockey with creativity, fun, and a little fantasy. Whether you're new to the game or just love the idea of dragons and yetis lacing up skates, the MCHL delivers an unforgettable experience on and off the ice.
