The Art of Goalie Positioning: MCHL's Expert Tips for Stopping the Puck

In hockey, the goalie is the last line of defense. Goalie positioning is crucial for stopping the puck and preventing goals. At MCHL, we understand the importance of goalie positioning and have a team of experts who can provide personalized training and coaching to help goalies improve their skills. In this blog post, we'll explore some tips and tricks for goalie positioning that can help you become a better goalie and stop more pucks.

Tip #1: Stay Square to the Shooter

One of the most important aspects of goalie positioning is staying square to the shooter. This means keeping your body and pads aligned with the shooter and not getting caught off balance. By staying square, you'll be able to see the puck better and make more saves.

Tip #2: Play the Angles

Playing the angles is another key aspect of goalie positioning. This means positioning yourself in the net to take away as much of the net as possible from the shooter. By doing this, you'll make it harder for the shooter to score and increase your chances of making a save.

Tip #3: Use Your Stick

Your stick is an important tool for goalie positioning. Use it to cover the five-hole and take away passing lanes. By using your stick effectively, you'll be able to make more saves and prevent goals.

We operate primarily out of rinks across the Raleigh-Durham area, offering a wide range of hockey experiences including league games, pickups, tournaments, coached practices, power skating, goalie clinics, and even events at venues like the Lenovo Center. We also organize travel teams that compete in tournaments outside the area.
