Hockey, Community, and Giving Back: The MCHL Story
The MCHL, or the Mythical Creatures Hockey League, is not your average recreational hockey organization. With 8 teams in the Raleigh area, 2 in Colorado, and weekly practices and pickups, travel events, and tournaments, MCHL is dedicated to providing a high-quality hockey experience for players of all skill levels. But that's not all they do. MCHL also gives back to the community with fundraisers for local charities, coaches youth hockey, and now supplies jerseys and a full line of apparel to a total of 16 teams.
The MCHL was founded in 2021 by Edward Kettyle and Jim Shaughnessy, two hockey players who felt that adult "beer-leaguers" were underserved and underappreciated. They wanted to create an environment that was focused on fun, community, and camaraderie. The organization quickly grew in popularity and now has over 200 league team members playing on 10 teams. MCHL has teams at just about every level of play, from D league for beginners to Upper B for high-level skill, with each team playing 13-14 regular season games and participating in playoffs at the end of the season.
But MCHL is more than just an organization that provides opportunities for adults to play hockey. They also have a strong commitment to the community. Every year, MCHL holds a fundraiser for a local charity. In the past, they have collected clothing, toys, and raised money for organizations such as The Vision, a substance abuse organization, and Autism. These events not only raise awareness and money for important causes but also bring the community together and promote the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and giving back.
In addition to their commitment to the community, MCHL also coaches youth hockey. MCHL coaches work with local youth hockey organizations to provide clinics and training sessions for both young and adult players. By sharing their passion for the game and their knowledge of the sport, MCHL coaches help to develop the next generation of hockey players in the community while also giving adults who just started to play a place to begin their journey into the world of hockey.
And now, MCHL has expanded their offerings to include jerseys and a full line of apparel. They work with local, national, and foreign businesses to design and produce high-quality, customized jerseys and apparel for teams and fans alike. This allows them to provide a wide variety of items while hitting a price point that works for everyone. This new venture allows MCHL to further support the local community by partnering with other businesses and organizations.
In conclusion, the MCHL is more than just a recreational hockey league. It is a community of dedicated hockey players who are committed to promoting the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and giving back. With their expansion into youth coaching and apparel, MCHL continues to grow and support the community in new and exciting ways.
